After several seasons away, Anane is back. I'm Sandra, the founder and creative director of the brand. In 2021, Anane grew a lot and very fast, which, combined with some complicated personal situations, led me to decide to take a break to reorient myself. I talked to the team and we decided to be on standby for a few months.Sometimes you wonder what is your contribution to the world and if you are on the right path towards your dreams, respecting your values. I am a nature lover and I have never abused the term "sustainable", as producing or consuming fashion, or publishing this from an iphone, is not sustainable at all. And this has made me think a lot. Sometimes I had judgments in my mind in which I believed I was not doing the right thing. I have meditated a lot, I have shared my thoughts with many people who have helped me, I have read a lot, and there is a book that has been a bit "my bible" during this time: "Let my people go surfing" by Yvon Choirnauid.Yvon is the founder of Patagonia and in the book he explains how the project started. He really liked to climb in Yosemite Valley and he realized that the carabiners they used were damaging the rocks, so he started creating his own and gradually started distributing them to his climber friends.In his career, there have also been seasons when he took time to go on expeditions to Argentina with Douglas Tompkins (creator of The North Face, another case that has helped me a lot to demystify things about fashion), and how both ended up building an empire.This book has taught me that sometimes life takes you to situations that are better not to force, that each person, brand, or company has its own journey and it is not worse or better. The most important thing is not to lose the values or essence of the brand, and although fashion will not be sustainable, Anane wants to offer the most environmentally respectful option, something that is very important to me."Sunrise from the pico" is a collection inspired by the feeling experienced when watching the sunrise from the top of a mountain. It is the feeling that the steps and effort taken the day before were worth it to enjoy this moment today.

Lo más importante es no perder los valores o la esencia de la marca, y aunque la moda no será sostenible, Anane quiere poder ofrecer una opción respetuosa con el medio ambiente, algo que es muy importante para mí."Sunrise from the pico" es una colección inspirada en la sensación que se experimenta al ver el amanecer desde la cima de una montaña. Sentir que los pasos y el esfuerzo realizados el día anterior valieron la pena para disfrutar de este momento hoy.

Anane is back

Last June the AWSF (Anane Welcome Summer Fest) took place in the Solo Office KGDVS. A one-of-a-kind event in a place where architecture meets nature, where fashion meets celebration.With the intent of celebrating the arrival of summer, we invited friends and people from our community to join us and dive into anane's universe in an environment where architecture is integrated with nature.The guest list was completed by 30 people, including photographers, stylists, models, producers and interesting humans. It was necessary to be able to give the guests the opportunity to connect with each other since many share the same values and concerns.As the date approached, the guests were receiving their invitations. The "save the date" was done in digital format, thus creating an invitation designed in 3d, which represents the union of the community and the door into summer (and the sun), then was auctioned as an NFT. Curiosity for innovation has always been part of Anane, we are always open to experimenting with things that are in line with the values of the brand. After a while, everyone received a newspaper with all details and a poster with the NFT that magic arises depending on the background you had.The house is three hours by car from Barcelona. The roadtrip to the location was incredible to see all the mountains of Mataraña where Picasso got inspired to create the cubism.Daniele and Jordi are with the sound check, food and drinks begins to be prepared while the anane team dances with the beetles and ants.Temperature is high and the light shines different and while the sound of Polo &amp; Pan spreads through the pines, first guests start to arrive.We had a beautiful journey where we were able to enjoy the sounds of Daniele Zonza while we were in the pool, enjoying the paella and fideua.Hours later we were delighted by Gabriela Richardson that created a mystical and magical moment gathered to hear her special, warm and subtle voice.As the afternoon got animated, we were able to enjoy the best dances. And when the sun went down, Ana and Laia surprised us with the final funny dj disco set.Thank you to everyone who has made possible the Anane Welcome Summer Fest. Anane Welcomes Summer in the middle of nature

Summer it’s the most awaited time of the year for everyone but specially for Anane. We love those summer days you don’t need to worry about time, just to enjoy the summer breeze, share magical moments with friends and to calm our soul with salty water.That’s why we wanted to celebrate the beginning of the summer season with the Anane’s Welcome Summer Fest, a singular event held in a remote local village in the middle of the Matarraña, as the chosen place to give life to a universal message that is set out to repeat yearly and go beyond in future editions.Summer is here, good vibrations are here and the good memories that we keep  from eariler summertimes are back for us to enjoy them.

The event took place in the Solo Office KGDVS house, a building that brings together the two most important pillars for the brand: architecture surrounded by nature.The unbelievable studio it’s immersed in the middle of the forest in Matarraña, Spain. Its architecture blends into the trees and nature thanks to its special shape, which is a big circle with a space in the middle where a big garden and pool take place.The house, designed by the architects Kersten Geers and David Van Severen, it’s part of the “Solo House” project, which aims to build 12 studios in the future.&nbsp;

"The goal is to emphasize the amazing landscapes and the natural environment, that’s why all the walls from rooms and spaces can be movible, being able to appreciate the outdoors whenever you want to, without limits".The distribution of the house was designed in order to be the most environmentally friendly possible, it’s raised by four sets of posts supporting the ceiling and separating bedrooms and living areas, having as result a main kitchen, three big bedrooms and two living rooms, in addition to the big open spaces it has with loungers and sofas to stare at the panoramic views of the surroundings.

During our days in the house we were able to connect with nature and inspire ourselves between stunning shapes and colors. Also did the people who came to the event, who enjoyed the house getting in the summer vibe and we are excited to introduce you in the following posts…stay tuned!

Get to know closer what's behind our product

The process of creating our pieces means a lot more than a simple production. As everything we do, in Anane we reflect our values in the way we work and how products are made, and that’s why we take care of every step and every detail of our production.To make this possible, we needed to find a very handy atelier in which we could follow from a very close perspective every part of the process. And that’s what we did. In Anane we produce in Spain, concretely in a small atelier from Barcelona, the city where the brand was raised.The fact of having the production close to us, brought us the advantage of creating everything with the atelier in a very sensible and careful way, communicating our needs and hearing suggestions from&nbsp;professional makers.

The creation process takes time and dedication, and that’s why we always start ideating one year before the launching.&nbsp;For us it’s&nbsp;very important to let ideas flow and it’s the process we enjoy the most, as we can have fun doing brainstorming and letting out all our inspiration. In our team we love to hear from different points of view as we think in diversity we find the most original and unique ideas.The better way to capture this essential part is to reflect all this universe into reality, with sketches and drawings. That’s the part where all our thoughts take shape, colours and texture, having as result the final product design and patterns.

With all material ready to produce, we submerge in the most important part of the process, when we see the first samples of the production and we can touch, feel and appreciate the pieces. Not only this, in Anane we feel all our products need to be adaptable to any kind of body as we know swimsuits are very special and personal items, that’s why we try all our samples in different bodies trying to adapt as much as we can all the sizes to real bodies.Finally, when we make sure we love the product and we have the perfect patterns, we go on with the production, relaying all our trust on the atelier, where they do everything delicately, taking care of every small detail.

Made in Spain

Nature is a fundamental pillar that influences us when choosing the colors and textures of the collection. For this occasion we wanted to learn and experience the dyeing process with natural dyes.

Fashion brands are trying to become every day more sustainable and reduce their impact on the planet. In our case, we wanted to go one step further. Together with the recycled materials or the elimination of labels and all the packaging that has a negative impact on the planet, we decided to take advantage of nature's resources and nourish ourselves from our environment to dye the towels in the Spring 2021 collection. Do you want to know how?Sandra, our Creative Director is committed to experimentation and the search for new resources and ideas as a basis for offering quality designs that have an added value. That is why she decided to be inspired by nature itself and experiment with natural dyes to achieve four shades for our towels.

After taking some lessons on the types of natural dyes that nature offers, the pigment extraction process and its application to garments, it was determined which color sources would be the most suitable for the collection. Blue was obtained from índigo, green from the carrot leaves and the two shades of yellow with purple onion and cúrcuma.Knowing the infinite source of colors that can be obtained from food or other plant sources allowed us to see how we can obtain a wide palette of colors taking advantage of natural resources and being more sustainable. From various threads, such as protein fibers in wool and silk or cellulose fibers in cotton, linen and jute, we discover a world full of opportunities.

We choose cotton, wool, linen and bamboo, four types of animal and vegetable protein fibers, to create our color pallette and experiment with color. First, a treatment was applied to prepare the fabric itself, a process that allows the color to penetrate the threads. Secondly, a washing and etching phase was carried out, two key points to ensure a color fixation on the textiles.The result was amazing, we managed to create our own dyes as if we were establishing a dialogue with nature itself. In addition, this process makes each piece unique since its exposure to the sun causes the rays to slightly modify the tone of each of the garments.This experiment has allowed us to see even closer our appreciation for the environment as a source of inspiration and now as a resource as well.

The influence of nature

Everytime we travel is a new opportunity to explore, learn and connect with ourselves. The frenetic rhythm of the routine, added to the increasing social pressure, is slowly affecting our mental health, I have never heard so many times the word "anxiety". Whether if you are working for a company or having your own business, the pressure forces ourselves to take a break more often.Last October, after shooting the campaign of Casa No Tempo in Alentejo, I rented a van to visit southern Portugal with the mission of fully immersing ourselves in Portuguese culture. We were just recovering from a very emotional and intense season and all we wanted was to enjoy every minute, without schedules and with all the flexibility in the world. Since I was a kid I have traveled this way and it is an incredible feeling of freedom and beautiful way to meet people.I wanted to share with you another way to travel the world, slowly, without filters, without schedules and beautiful. These are some memories I took during the trip. I hope you like them!

Aires Mateus is the architecture studio that took the mission of reimagining Casa No tempo into what it is today. A rural building full of memories from the family owners. A few days ago we had the opportunity to have a talk with Manuel Aires Mateus, architect and founder of the studio. During the interview we had the chance to dive across his journey as an architect, his personal influences, the places he likes the most and much more.

<ul><li>Casa No Tempo breathes a minimalist vibes that blends with its surroundings. What were you asked for when you undertook the project?</li></ul>The house follows a Portuguese tradition of chã architecture, with few elements. The goal was to highlight the values ​​that already existed in the building, making it an archetype of home in the region. <ul><li>The house has become a source of inspiration. What was the main driver of your renovation proposal?</li></ul>Our idea was to give clarity to its spaces. A simple, clear house where spaces marked themselves up in an obvious way. The house is still protective. The bedrooms have their own bath on the outside in order to create a distance from the exterior. <ul><li>To what extent do architecture and interior design preserve the family history and heritage?</li></ul>In the past the house had suffered many alterations– in fact, it had lost quality. What we attempted to do is creating a new memory because in architecture, memories can also be built from present to past. In the end, the most important thing is that the family feels the house as if it had always been built this way. <ul><li>Can we consider Casa no Tempo as an experiential design project that directly appeals to emotions?</li></ul>Architecture must appeal to the emotions, it must combine an existing reality with memories that are dear to us, that can be seen in the places we visit. Casa no Tempo seeks to combine a clear design architecture and well-proportioned spaces with a collective and individual memory of a rural house from southern Europe.

<ul><li>And if we talk about Portugal, does it influence your projects?</li></ul>The place where we are plays a key role in our growth. Our memories are Portuguese, our childhood is Portuguese, most of our experiences are Portuguese. On the other hand, today we are all global. But in order to become truly global, you need to understand what being local is. <ul><li>What approach defines your creative process?</li></ul>We work on problems. From them we try to extract the right answer. An answer that is functional, economical, technical, yet emotional, passional and artistic as well. <ul><li>How does the human factor play in the development of your ideas?</li></ul>Each project works according to its context. The interesting thing about architectural projects is imagining every single one as something unique. The human factor is the most influential aspect giving a project its unique condition. No two people are alike, so no two answers are alike either. <ul><li>How much important it is for you to seek references beyond architecture itself?</li></ul>Architecture looks for references in life, everywhere. In art, literature, cinema ... all aspects of life. Architecture is an art discipline that is fulfilled with life. Its equilibrium is the answer to a life.

<ul><li>To what extent can architecture become a source of inspiration for other disciplines?</li></ul>Architecture, as an artistic expression, inspires all disciplines. Nowadays we feel great influences from architecture in many other arts such as sculpture, painting, film or photography. It is a foundational art and, as such, determining. <ul><li>How do you foresee architecture and interior design evolving in the coming years? Where are we going?</li></ul>Architecture and design will always evolve in response to world conditions. These activities are tightly related to the state of affairs. I believe that architecture will evolve according to each moment. In the coming years I see ourselves attempting to create private spaces with greater freedom. In the recent times of lockdown we see how much important it is to bring freedom to those private moments. <ul><li>What has been your most challenging project to date?</li></ul>All the challenges have the same degree of dedication: we found a way to design an almost impossible structure in a museum in Lausanne (Switzerland), we tried to interpret Islam in a mosque in Bordeaux (France), we found a way to rework a gigantic building without interfering with the facade in Lisbon, etc. But many times the smaller projects and houses are the ones that bring the greatest challenges.

<ul><li>Favorite hotel? And building?</li></ul>If I said a hotel, it would be a guest house on the Alentejo coast that I no longer know where it is. In my memories I keep its abandoned air and the degree of contact we had with the environment. The building would perhaps be the Church of San Carlino, by Borromini, because of its creative freedom and because it has always been a reference for me as an architect. Still about the hotel, I would say that among my own projects I would pick Hotel de Santa Clara. <ul><li>A professional goal to meet?</li></ul>I would like to design a church. I like to work on challenges where I need to push myself the most. The most ambitious project that exists is trying to reflect on what the great mysteries can be for men. <ul><li>The city you would like to visit when we can get back to traveling?</li></ul>I like to go to the cities where my work takes me. Some are essential. I don't know. If I had to choose one, it would be between Rome and New York.

A conversation with Manuel Aires Mateus

Meet Sandra, Founder and the creative mind behind Anane.

TURNING A DREAM INTO A FASHION BRANDSince she was a kid, Sandra has always been expressed through art, especially through clothing and she had always dreamed of having a brand. This idea matured over the time until the swimwear world appeared in her life ‘‘I started to do some sketches and I do not remember how suddenly I saw myself doing a small production of 200 bikinis. After that summer I quit my job and invested all my time to build what Anane is today''.‘‘When people asks me what is Anane, I see a very visual concept. It's a dream, a story, a pure and nostalgic feeling''. The lockdown became a moment of reflection for the brand and the founder stopped to analyze the right direction. During those months Sandra understood how her creative process worked and decided to turn her way of creating the collections into Anane's vision.

THE CREATIVE PROCESSWhen talking about Anane, it is essential to make an allusion to architecture and nature, two of the fundamental pillars of her universe. Sandra assures that architecture helps her to set the style and design the patterns of the collections. Likewise, nature is responsible for influencing the textures and defining the colors of each design."Working at Anane makes my every day different. During the last months we have been focused on the production of the latest collection, on the strategic part of the brand and planning all the projects that are about to come. Even if I cannot say much though, we will soon launch "Postcard", a new space for the company that will allow us to connect and interact with our community".

ANANE, AN ENDLESS JOURNEYAnane's journey is a multi-stop but never-ending travel. Sandra started this journey as a way to express her feelings and passion into stories that explains and promotes feelings ‘"Our mission is to innovate the way of consuming and appreciating fashion, investing on pieces with an original value that directly appeals to visual pleasure and emotions''.Since she launched the brand, Sandra has seen many of her dreams come true while new goals have emerged to achieve. "For me, this journey has been a challenge. I have taken many risks that made the brand grow faster, but I am so happy with all the work we have done and with all that remains to be done next months".Analyzing the trajectory of the brand with perspective, we can see how the designer has managed to found her own place with the brand. With an eye on a future full of beautiful projects, Sandra and the Anane team is working to fulfill all dreams.

How do we transform architecture into fashion?We are committed to a new concept in the fashion and swimwear industry through the design of pieces that transform architecture into unique patterns and are influenced by nature, interpreting it through texture and color. Each design is shown with precise measurements, proportions and a relationship with itself that assemble a set designed to adapt to the body.The environment is an infinite source of inspiration that allows us to speak through fashion. We want to create and share our stories through our campaigns, sharing visual narratives that allow us to add value to our product in addition to discover together new places.
